Students who attend Foothill or De Anza College can live in apartment style accommodations that are located within walking distance of the De Anza campus and a short drive away from Foothill campus. These units are readily available and offer a convenient housing option for students seeking to live near campus.

The housing at FHDA is a residential community for students who attend either Foothill or De Anza college and must meet certain eligibility requirements.

Must be a credit student, enrolled in at least 8 credit units. Must be at least 18 years old at the time of signing the license agreement for housing. Must have no criminal record related to violence or other significant disciplinary offenses. Must complete a FAFSA or Dream Act equivalent if applicable. Must have current MMR vaccination and TB clearance.

Each resident signs a housing license agreement based on their individual housing cost. Residents are responsible for their own bed space and share responsibility with their roommates for the overall apartment unit.

Yes. All applicants must have a guarantor age 18 or older who agrees to take financial responsibility if the student cannot pay. If you do not have a guarantor, you may request a waiver by emailing housing@fhda.edu with documentation showing you can meet housing costs on your own.

Students receiving financial aid may use their funds to cover housing costs. However, in most cases, financial aid package(s) will not cover the full cost of housing. Additional income such as employment earnings, savings, family support, etc. will likely be needed along with a financial aid package. We recommend planning ahead to ensure you can cover housing costs even if there are delays in the financial aid disbursement schedule. After you submit your housing application, your information is processed through a screening system through our property management site. Any record of a violent or sexual offense would not be approved to live in housing, as is mentioned in the Board Policy regarding student housing eligibility (https://go.boarddocs.com/ca/fhda/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=DKP2D701A19F)

While we cannot guarantee that students will be matched with their preferred apartment-mate(s), students will have the option to request apartment-mate(s) by first and last name during the application process.

Most apartments are sized with two bedrooms and two bathrooms and residents have the option of choosing the type of occupancy they would prefer. There will be a limited number of single occupancy bedrooms available. Most of the floorplans will be double or triple occupancy. This could mean a total of two to six students are living in the apartment.

Room assignments are based on the applicants’ preferences for either a traditional same gender specific apartment or a mixed, non-gender specific apartment. We will assign a resident to a non-gender specific or mixed gender apartment only if selected on the resident’s application or a consent form.

At this time, our housing community is offering housing agreements for a double or triple occupancy bedroom, which will allow for up to 6 students per apartment. Because of this style, we are not currently able to accommodate students living with dependents. We recognize the need for family housing and are working toward expanding options in the future. Students with dependents are welcome to join our interest list so we can contact them if family housing opportunities become available.

Yes, all apartments come furnished with the following: Each resident is provided with a twin bed frame and mattress (that may or may not be bunked), nightstand, desk and desk chair. In the common area, apartments will come furnished with a dining room table and four chairs.

While there is no meal plan associated with student housing, all apartments are equipped with a full kitchen, which includes a four-burner stove and oven, a microwave, a full-sized refrigerator, and a pantry area.

The student housing community has a recreation room, fitness center, outdoor courtyard, and a laundry facility. Additionally, there are resident advisors who plan residential programs and monthly events for community members.

Yes you may make a request for an accommodation in housing that is related to your disabiliy(ies). The Foothill- De Anza Community College District is committed to the full participation of students with disabilities in all aspects of college life, including residential life at McClellan Terrace Apartments.  The office for Disability Support Programs and Services at De Anza college and the Disability Resource Center at Foothill College work in consultation and coordination with the student housing community to provide reasonable housing accommodations to students with disabilities in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, 29 U.S.C. § 794, and its implementing regulation, 34 C.F.R. Part 104 (Section 504), and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, 42 U.S.C. §§ 12131-12134, and its implementing regulation, 28 C.F.R. Part 35 (Title II). The student housing office has established housing procedures to ensure students with documented disability(ies) have equal access to housing opportunities at McClellan Terrace Apartments.

Step 1: Submit a Housing Accommodation ApplicationStudents may submit a housing accommodation at any time, however, we strongly encourage applications to be submitted along with the housing application prior to moving in to the student housing community to ensure the best opportunity for the requested accommodation to be provided. Step 2: Submit Supporting DocumentationPlease carefully review the Documentation Guidelines for a clear understanding of the necessary supporting documentation. This will help expedite the review process and reduce the need for additional information. Students with a visible disability (e.g., an individual with a physical disability using a wheelchair needing an accessible room) only need to explain what type of accommodations they are requesting. No verification of disability will be required under such circumstances.In addition to the general documentation guidelines, documentation for a housing accommodation request must clearly address the following:Documentation must provide current and reliable confirmation as to (1) whether you are presently disabled as defined under applicable law, and (2) what accommodation is necessary, in connection with a disability, in order to fully use, enjoy, and provide equal access to the student housing.The requested accommodation should clearly establish a relationship between the functional limitations related to the diagnosis and the need for the accommodation and/or modification to the student housing policies, practices, or services. If a student is making a request based on a diagnosis of a sleep disorder, including but not limited to Insomnia, the documentation provided must include a formal sleep study that illustrates the diagnosis and impact.Step 3: Schedule an Intake MeetingOnce you have completed Step 1 and 2, you will be invited to participate in an intake meeting to help determine eligibility. The process entails sharing of information related to the impact and limitations of the disability which will help us better understand how we can support you.Step 4: Determination of AccommodationIf a housing accommodation request is considered necessary and reasonable, the Director or Assistant Director of Housing will notify the student, in writing, after the intake meeting. Please be sure to respond promptly to any requests or information needed by the student housing office to facilitate the implementation of your accommodation.The institution may not approve of a requested accommodation for the following reasons:Incomplete information: Documentation submitted does not provide sufficient information to determine the necessity of an accommodation.Unreasonable Accommodation: (1) imposes an undue financial and/or administrative burden, (2) fundamentally alters housing policies or (3) poses a direct threat to the health and safety of others or would cause substantial property damage. If your disability is not known or obvious to us, we will require confirmation from a qualified person (such as a physician, therapist, social worker, counselor, or other professional) who is familiar with you and your condition, to confirm: (1) whether you are disabled as defined by law, (2) what accommodation is needed, and (3) whether the accommodation is necessary in order for you to fully use and enjoy your apartment. Sometimes we will also need confirmation of the connection between the requested accommodation and your disability, where this is not clear to us. Confirmation can come in writing such as a letter or email from a doctor or therapist with the author’s contact information, but in some cases can also occur via a phone conversation. You may wish to provide advance authorization for that person to speak with us about their familiarity with you and their conclusions about your disability and need for accommodation. We do not need and will never inquire about your specific diagnosis or treatment, or any other personal medical or psychological information. Please do not send us medical records.

If we approve your request for any type of accommodation for a disability, we will always do so in writing, by letter. Please do not rely on any oral discussion, actions by prior management or approvals from other communities, or other indications not contained in a letter from the student housing office.

Guests are welcome to the community, subject to limits on duration of visitation and apartment-mate consent.

The community assumes all student codes of conduct. FHDA student housing is a smoke-free and dry campus. (Smoke free means no tobacco, no vaping and no marijuana).

No, animals and pets are not permitted in student housing community. However, students with a documented disability may request reasonable accommodation for an assistance or support animal. These requests are reviewed separately from the housing application to ensure equal access and use of housing. To begin the process, please email your request and supporting documentation directly to our housing team at housing@fhda.edu.

The student housing community will have a live-in residence life coordinator and resident advisor who can provide support on night and weekends. Additionally, FHDA public safety officers can be contacted in case of emergency at 408-924-8000 or for non-emergencies at 650-949-7313. Additionally residents can call 911 in case of any emergencies.
